Airplane travel with diabetes takes a little extra planning, but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your trip. To be safe, place diabetes medications and supplies in your carry-on bag in case your luggage gets lost, this also keeps them at the appropriate temperature. Consider splitting supplies between your carry on and your companion’s carry on in case one gets lost or damaged. Separate out your diabetes supplies when being screened at security and tell the TSA officer what you have. Carrying a written prescription may help save time when going through security. Pack an extra week’s worth of medication and supplies. Bring glucose tablets, gel or your preferred carb source to treat a low, as well as some appropriate snack foods. Wear diabetes friendly socks and shoes for the walk through the airport. Consider wearing a diabetes alert bracelet, especially when traveling alone. Have a great trip!
